now perhaps my favorite spot in tokyo (maybe even all of e. asia!): la jetée

a tiny six seat spot in one of the alleys in golden gai. the door at street level opens to a staircase that leads up to the second floor

run by a woman called tomoyo for the last 34 years. named after the awesome French film of the same name (the owner’s a fan and used to work in film)

if you’re a regular, leave your bottle on the shelf with your name on it

la jetée, the movie: if you haven’t seen it, see it. it’s 28 minutes long, and narrated entirely over still photographs (!!!!!). fittingly, i think we perhaps spent 20-something minutes in here and saw everything as photographs to remember for later.
