Foursquare: I’ve spent far too much time thinking about this game
I’m intrigued to learn what features FourSquare has in its pipeline. As it stands now, I can easily imagine FourSquare replacing Yelp — the way Yelp replaced CitySearch — to be the go-to source for of location-specific information.
In FourSquare’s current state, a possible monetization feature would allow vendors to offer targeted-promotions to FourSquare players. Personally, I’m very intrigued by how FourSquare has successfully encouraged participation through egocentrism and virtual praise (titles, badges, points) — they nailed it. Moreover, I think they’ve cleverly applied game theory as a tactic to build a 100% user generated local resource. That’s pretty neat. What’s in their pipeline?
A good description of how foursquare works, why it’s fun, and strategies for “winning”.
I’ve found myself swept up in the fun, and from what I’ve read, they’ve got some great features in the pipeline.
